Oladapo Olanipekun Founder
Dr. Olanipekun is the founder of Au Courant. He is the Lead Partner at the law firm of Esher & Makarios and his core areas of practice and academic research include banking and finance, shareholder disputes, regulation and regulatory disputes, consumer protection, oil and gas law and policy, domestic and international trade, financial crime, constitutional law, general civil litigation and dispute resolution.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Lagos. He also holds a master’s degree in corporate and commercial law from the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary and Westfield College, London. He obtained a PhD in banking and financial law from the International Financial Law Unit, Queen Mary, University of London.
In the course of his practice, he has been invited twice by the Court of Appeal, as amicus curiae, to give expert opinion on complex issues of commercial law in Edo State Board of Internal Revenue v Independent Television/Radio (2014) LPELR 23215; and Nigerian Breweries PLC v. Dumuje (2016) 8 NWLR (Part 1515) 536.
He is the editor- in- chief of the Banking and Financial Law Reports (BFLR). He is also the chairman of the Advisory Board of the Constitutional Rights Awareness and Liberty Initiative (CRALI). Between 2012 and 2014, he served as a member of the National Editorial Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), as well as the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Panel of the NBA. He was appointed as the Alternate Chairman of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Panel B of the NBA in 2015. He is the Chairman of the Research and Editorial Committee of the Section on Business Law of the NBA. He was a lecturer at the Department of Commercial and Industrial Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos between 2009-2012, where he taught Banking Law, Commercial Law and Law of Insurance.
Dr. Olanipekun is an assessor for the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and serves on the editorial boards of several leading law periodicals. He has a number of publications to his credit. He has delivered papers on diverse topics at many conferences and seminars. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, International Bar Association, the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, the Young International Arbitrators’ Group, London Court of International Arbitration and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK Branch). He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigeria. He is the Chairman of the Banking and Finance Committee of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigeria. Dr Olanipekun was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in July 2015, being the youngest person ever to be conferred with the rank since inception.
